TRIESTE - Giovanna BotteriRAI correspondent from Beijin, is the president of the Jury of the International Premio Marco Luchetta 2020: winner of the Special Award in 2015, she is now a daily presence in the homes of the Italians providing updates from China. Giovanna Botteri has been Rai correspondent for 12 years from New York and as special correspondent she covered some of the most important events of our times, from the collapse of the Soviet Union to the beginning of the airstrikes on Baghdad in 2003. «Premio Luchetta 2020 continues – announced Giovanna Botteri in a video – the Jury will work online to select the finalists of this 17th edition. In this way, working from home, we can truly give our contribution to save lives and prevent so much suffering. As president of the Jury based in Beijin, I’ll be able to feel a bit closer to you all in Trieste». For the first time the Jury of the Premio Luchetta won’t meet face to face: due to Covid – 19 measures, the meeting will be held online. Giovanna Botteri will chair the proceedings and the finalists of each section will be selected.Once again the Jury will have to choose from many reportage, videos and photographs from all over the world, as always dedicated to raising awareness about the violence and abuse suffered by the most defenceless victims, children. The aim of the Premio goes hand in hand with the humanitarian spirit of the Fondazione Luchetta, founded after the tragedy that took place in Mostar, in January 1994 – when Rai journalists Marco Luchetta, Alessandro Sasha Ota and Dario D’Angelo lost their lives – and the tragic events in Mogadishu where Trieste’s cameraman Miran Hrovatin was killed together with Journalist Ilaria Alpi.
Organized by Fondazione Luchetta together with RAIand Prandicom, the Award is coordinated by curator Francesca Fresa with Secretary of the Jury Giovanni Marzini, who announce an important change in the calendar of events involving the 7th edition of Link, Festival of Journalism: «due to the pandemic measures, Link Festival 2020 and the Premio Luchetta prizegiving ceremony will take place after summer, hopefully inside the Fincantieri Newsroom set up in the central Piazza Unità».
